Nordstil Forum: What drives the retail trade?

Jun 12, 2017

Trend Show presents tomorrow’s shop windows

The lecture programme has been finalised and, for three days from 22 to 24 July 2017, everything at the Nordstil Forum in Hall B1.0 will revolve around subjects of topical interest to the retail trade, and give visitors the chance to gather valuable inspiration for their own work at the numerous lectures and workshops. On the Saturday, the focus will be on design and innovation while the Sunday will be devoted to customer communication and sales. On the Monday, the Forum will be rounded off by the subjects of omnichannel platforms and shop concepts. Altogether, 20 speakers are taking part, including Düsseldorf’s retail-trade expert Elmar Fedderke and renowned florist Imke Riedebusch. Among those taking part for the first time are event designer and stylist Peggy Hoyer and Stefan Krursel, freelance lecturer for packaging design.

At Nordstil Forum, Elmar Fedderke will tackle a subject that undoubtedly occupies many sales people: how should I deal with self-confident customers who have already looked up products and prices on the internet before coming into the shop? Fedderke will offer tips and tricks for communicating with them and show how customers of this kind can be convinced by pragmatic and clever arguments. Imke Riedebusch will show visitors what is driving the florists’ business at present and, in her lecture on ‘At home in the North’ provide a comprehensive preview of the floral trends for the coming autumn and winter.

Peggy Hoyer is one of the speakers taking part in the Nordstil Forum for the first time and she will be bringing helpful tips and creative tasks for visitors with her. In her lecture, she will explain how decorating shops shrewdly can contribute to improved sales and which key-performance indicators (KPI) should be monitored in the lifestyle retail trade. Hoyer invites all visitors wanting to give free rein to their creativity to join her for a handicrafts session. In one of her workshops, she will show how to make peonies using tissue paper and then use them as decorations. In his lecture, Stefan Krursel will talk about ‘Love at first sight – how can I inspire my customers by telling stories?’ and the trend towards story telling – a trend that is currently an established feature in many fields. The freelance lecturer and former shoe retailer reports on his practical experiences, and explains how retailers can make their customers fall in love with their assortment using simple means.

Barely a stone’s throw away from the lecture area is the trend area with creative interpretations of tomorrow’s shop-window trends. Stefan Krursel, who is also involved in the Nordstil Forum, puts the focus of his trend platform on men with ideas for appealing more specifically to this target group using wood, concrete and light as his presentation elements at the point-of-sale. Imke Riedebusch visualises the content of her Forum lectures in her trend show: in autumn and winter, green succulents with red-tipped leaves form, inter alia, the basis for a natural, modern pre-Christmas ambience. In contrast, Sabine Gauditz, expert for visual marketing, spotlights the subject of tea culture and has developed different ideas for product presentations. Her ‘Raise the cups’ arrangement has a strong maritime flavour – including beach chairs, of course. Her presentation will also answer the question as to which materials and colours can be combined with each other and how to arrange tea cups, pots and teapot warmers.
